The Copenhagen Photo Festival is now accepting applications from visual artists and photographers worldwide for its 2027 Open Call for Solo Artists.
The call seeks ambitious and innovative projects that challenge traditional concepts of photography and lens-based art while creating meaningful connections between artistic and documentary photography. Selected projects will be exhibited during the 2027 Copenhagen Photo Festival in the heart of Denmark's capital, Copenhagen.
The theme for the 2027 edition is:
Frie hænder | Free Hands
The theme explores personal and artistic freedom, freedom of expression, the ability to make independent choices, and the impact of technology, conflict, and inequality on human freedom and creative practice.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The project must be clearly connected to the Free Hands theme.
- The application must include a CV and a short artist biography.
- Applicants must submit a project description of no more than 3,000 characters.
- The description should specify the number of works, their dimensions, materials, presentation format, and any required equipment.
- At least 10 images supporting the project must be included.
- Images must be at least 1,500 pixels on the longest side and use the sRGB colour profile.
- The complete project must not have been exhibited previously in Denmark, although individual works from the project may have been shown there.
- Applicants must be willing to collaborate with the curatorial team and participate in the festival’s public programme.
Responsibilities of Selected Artists
Selected artists are expected to:
- Collaborate with the festival team on the development, design, and installation of the exhibition.
- Participate in a final interview during autumn 2026.
- Attend activities related to the exhibition.
- Deliver a public activity, such as a talk, guided tour, or workshop.
- Explore innovative and sustainable approaches to displaying the work.
- Participate in selected promotional activities before and during the festival.
Application Fee
The application fee is DKK 215.
