Open Data Challenge for Public Transportation in Tokyo with 3 million JPY Prize

The Open Data Challenge for Public Transportation Tokyo Developer site is now open for participants all over the world. The Association for Open Data of Public Transportation has promoted the openness of data related to public transportation with an aim to make public transportation in "Tokyo," which is said to be the world's most complicated, easier for all people, including foreign visitors, challenged people, and elderly people to navigate. The association calls for apps that make Tokyo a more comfortable city.

Entry Themes:-

• The contest calls for new applications and services using open data of public transportation and open data from other sources.
• Applications include, but not limited to, smartphone apps, web services, and IoT gadgets. Data available here must be used by the submission. It is a requirement. But the contest also encourages and welcomes submissions that use additional open data from collaborating open data sources and other sources.
• The 4th Open Data Challenge for Public Transportation in Tokyo will give high marks to apps that bring about smooth movement and comfortable stay to many visitors of Tokyo in the period of this challenge.
• Contestants can use the provided open data commercially during the fourth challenge with an aim to take full advantage of public transportation open data. There are some requirements for the commercial use of the open data, check them from here.

• Total amount of prizes will be 3 million Japanese YEN (about US$27213.85).
• Special awards from the sponsors will also be announced.

• Any party including individuals, groups and corporations.
• There is no restriction on nationality, age, resident area, etc. Minor applicants shall obtain the permission of the guardian.
• Multiple entries per person (or group or company) are permitted. It is possible for a party to belong to two or more application groups.
• Those who are involved or related to the judging process can enter this contest, but they are not able to receive prizes.

Platform Requirements:-

• Submissions designed for PC: Must run on one of the followings:
• Windows 7 or later.
• Mac OS X 10.10 or later.
• Linux (Distribution must be clearly noted.)
• Entries designed for mobile OS: Must run on one of the followings:
• Android 4.2 or later.
• iOS 9 or later.
• Web applications: Must run with at least one of the following major browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari.
• Entries that require specific hardware: Hardware must be standard and needs to be easily obtainable.

Judging Criteria:-

Submissions will be judged comprehensively considering the following points:

• Can the submission be used for the smooth travel and comfortable stay of many visitors to Tokyo?
• Does the submission help public transportation open data take root in society as urban service?

About the Association for Open Data of Public Transportation:-

It is a council of industry-government-academia collaboration composed mainly of public transportation companies and ICT companies. Its aim is represented in construction of advanced next-generation public transportation information services, with the core of "open data" related to public transportation, and further development of research and development results at the public transportation open data study group, research and development of its standard platform, public transportation.
