Opportunity description

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is offering an internship opportunity in Kuwait for students and recent graduates interested in international relations, partnerships, communications, and public outreach. The intern will work closely with the External Relations and Private Sector Partnerships teams to support advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with governmental and private-sector partners, while contributing to humanitarian initiatives that support refugees and displaced populations.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, missions, workshops, and official events.
  • Monitor government developments and policies relevant to UNHCR’s work.
  • Support coordination with government authorities and external partners.
  • Contribute to the preparation of communication materials, newsletters, and outreach content.
  • Monitor media coverage related to UNHCR and refugee issues.
  • Support collaboration and coordination with other United Nations agencies.
  • Assist in managing information flow, tracking priorities, and supporting day-to-day office operations.

Eligibility criteria

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited university; or
  • Recent graduate who completed their studies within the last one to two years, in accordance with UNHCR internship policies.
  • Preferred fields of study include:
    • Communications and Media
    • International Relations
    • Political Science
    • Development Studies
    • Law
    • Business Administration
    • Or a related discipline.
  • Completion of at least two years of university-level studies.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Graphic design skills are considered an asset.
