The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ), in partnership with Ouranos, has opened applications for the Réal-Décoste–Ouranos Partnership Training Scholarship 2027–2028 (B2P), one of the funded PhD scholarships in Canada for researchers who wish to begin or continue doctoral studies in fields related to climate change, its impacts, and adaptation.
The scholarship provides CAD 40,000 per year and may be awarded for up to 9 academic terms, bringing the total potential funding to CAD 120,000. The program aims to support outstanding researchers and encourage a new generation of specialists in climate research and climate change adaptation.
Eligible Fields
The doctoral research project must be related to one of the areas targeted by Ouranos, including:
- Climate science.
- Applied regional climatology.
- Climate change impacts and adaptation.
- Hydrology and water sciences.
- Biology.
- Life sciences.
- Humanities related to climate impacts.
- Social sciences.
- Economics related to climate change impacts and adaptation.
Benefits
The selected researcher will receive:
- CAD 40,000 per year.
- Funding for up to 9 academic terms.
- Total support of up to CAD 120,000.
- The annual amount is paid in 3 installments, with each installment covering a 4-month period.
- The possibility of combining the scholarship with certain Canadian government, private, or university awards, in accordance with FRQ regulations.
- The possibility of undertaking paid work or training related to the research program, provided that it does not interfere with research activities and is approved by the supervisor.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be accepted to or enrolled at a university located in the province of Quebec.
- Be starting or continuing a research-based PhD program.
- Be enrolled in a program leading to a PhD degree and the completion of a doctoral dissertation.
- Have a research project that falls within one of the areas targeted by Ouranos.
- Have a research supervisor or an agreement with a professor to supervise the doctoral project.
- Normally maintain full-time enrollment during the funding period.
- Be physically present in Quebec throughout the funding period, except during university holidays or periods outside Quebec that are approved by the university as necessary for study or research.
