Opportunity description

Princeton University in the United States offers the Princeton Arts Fellowship for promising artists in the early stages of their careers who have demonstrated outstanding artistic achievements and exceptional potential in artistic practice and teaching.

The fellowship allows participants to spend two consecutive academic years in an active university arts community, where they can develop their creative work, participate in teaching Princeton University students, and engage with the university community.

The fellowship targets artists from various fields, including visual arts, creative writing, filmmaking, music, dance, theater, design, and performance arts. It also welcomes artists with interdisciplinary artistic practices.

The fellowship is open to non-U.S. citizens, which means that artists from Arab countries are eligible to apply. Princeton University may work on visa sponsorship and work authorization procedures for selected fellows when needed, according to each applicant’s eligibility.

Accepted fields include, but are not limited to:

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. The applicant must be an artist in the early stages of their career.
  2. The applicant must have a record of achievements that reflects exceptional artistic talent and potential.
  3. The applicant must be able to contribute to teaching or carry out artistic projects with university students.
  4. Applicants from all nationalities may apply, and U.S. citizenship is not required.
  5. There is no minimum or maximum age limit.
  6. The applicant must not hold a PhD from Princeton University.
  7. The applicant must not have previously received the Hodder Fellowship.
  8. The applicant must not have an ongoing, long-term relationship with Princeton University.
  9. Applicants who have had an occasional or intermittent relationship with the university may apply.
  10. The fellowship must not be used to fund study leading to an MFA, PhD, or any advanced academic degree.
  11. The applicant must not hold a semester-based teaching position at another institution during the fellowship.
  12. Applicants may apply for the Princeton Arts Fellowship only twice in their lifetime.
  13. Application documents and submitted work samples must be in English.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  1. An updated CV/resume.
  2. Contact information for three professional references.
  3. A proposal in English of no more than 750 words.
  4. Samples of artistic work.
  5. A 150-word statement explaining how the work samples relate to the submitted proposal.
