Opportunity description

Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the 2024 Science Without Borders Challenge. This is an international contest that engages students and teachers in ocean conservation through art. This annual competition inspires students to be creative while promoting public awareness of the need to preserve, protect, and restore the world’s oceans and aquatic resources. You will have the chance to help create awareness about endangered species and win one of the scholarships of up to $500.

Benefits

If you are among the winners, you will have one of the following scholarships:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $350
  • 3rd Place: $200

Eligibility criteria

You should follow the following criteria:

  • This international art competition is open to all students 11-19 years old.
  • The theme for the 2023 Science without Borders® Challenge is “The Sixth Extinction”.
  • You should create a piece of artwork that highlights the beauty and importance of a marine species that is on the brink of extinction.
  • Students must be enrolled in primary or secondary school, or the home school equivalent. 
  • College and university students are not eligible for this contest.
  • Work will be judged in two categories based on age, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes awarded for each:
  • Students 11-14 years old
  • Students 15-19 years old

Judging Process:

Your Artwork will be evaluated on:

  • The quality of the artwork.
  • Originality.
  • Adherence to the theme.

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation is a non-profit environmental science organization and ocean research foundation established to help preserve, protect and restore the world’s oceans and aquatic resources through research, education, and outreach. Its mission is to protect and restore ocean health by providing science-based solutions. It wants to make ocean conservation a high priority and hope that its work empowers people to keep ocean resources healthy and sustainable. The Foundation was established in 2000 by His Royal Highness Prince Khaled bin Sultan of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since then, the Foundation has organized many large-scale scientific surveys including the Global Reef Expedition, the world’s largest coral reef survey and high-resolution habitat mapping expedition.
