The Department of Culture of the Government of Sharjah has opened applications for the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism 2026, a cultural and literary award aimed at supporting and encouraging Arab critics and researchers interested in critical studies related to the Arabic poetic experience, and promoting the production of rigorous critical research that contributes to the development of the Arab literary and cultural landscape.
The award is considered one of the specialized Arab literary awards and competitions in literary criticism and targets Arab researchers and critics who submit original, publication-ready studies in the field of Arabic poetry criticism.
Benefits
The winners of the top three places will receive:
- First Place: AED 100,000.
- Second Place: AED 75,000.
- Third Place: AED 50,000.
- The Sharjah Department of Culture will publish the winning works.
- The winners will be announced and the awards presented during the Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival.
Eligibility criteria
The research paper and applicant must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be an Arab literary critic.
- The research must be original and specifically prepared for the award.
- The research must be a manuscript ready for publication.
- The research must not have been previously published in print or online.
- It must not have won a similar award.
- It must not be submitted simultaneously to another award or competition.
- Each researcher may submit only one research paper.
- The research must comply with academic and scientific standards.
- Footnotes, sources, and references must be clearly documented.
- The research paper must be between 20,000 and 25,000 words.
- It must be formatted on A4 pages, with an average of approximately 250 words per page.
Required Documents and Attachments
Applicants must prepare:
- An academic and literary CV in Arabic.
- Contact details, including postal address, phone numbers, and email address.
- A declaration confirming that the research has not been published or won another award.
- The official application form.
- A copy of the passport.
- Two personal photographs.
- An electronic copy of the research in Word format.
- 3 original printed copies of the research on A4 paper.
- The applicant’s name or any identifying information must not appear in the printed copies of the research.
