Short Story Competition and the Chance to Win a Prize €3,000

The Moth Magazine announces the start of a short story competition that is your opportunity for an international prize. It is open to anyone from anywhere in the world, as long as their story is original and previously unpublished. The winners are chosen by a single judge each year, who reads the stories anonymously. 

If your story among the winning works, you will get one of these prizes:  

1. The 1st prize: €3,000.
2. The 2nd prize: a week-long writing retreat at Circle of Misse in France (including €250 for travel).
3. The 3rd prize: €1,000.

You should follow the following terms:

• The Prize is open to anyone (over 16).
• Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, published online, or broadcast.
• You can enter as many stories as you like.
• There is a word limit of 5,000.
• The name of the author must not appear on the same page as the story.
• Entries must be in English.
• Entries will not be returned, so make sure you keep a copy.
• No corrections can be made after receipt, or fees refunded.
• Entry implies acceptance of all the rules.
• Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but The Moth will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories in the autumn 2021 issue and any relevant promotional material.

 Please note:

1.  The entry fee is €15 per story.
2. Payment can be made by cheque, credit/debit card via PayPal (to enquiries@themothmagazine.com), or by postal order (Ireland only).
3. The judge for the prize this year is Ali Smith.
4. The winners will be announced in September 2021 and all three stories will appear in the autumn issue of The Moth.
