Opportunity description
GCCA is calling young journalists, writers, and photographers for a competition entitled this year; EU GCCA+ Youth Awards for the best climate storytelling. It supports youth to tell powerful climate stories around the world. The EU GCCA+ Youth Awards will be an opportunity to shape and empower 5 young selected storytellers from countries that are most vulnerable to climate change.
Benefits
If you are one of the five award winners, you will be able to:
- Participate in a 6 weeks Masterclass by Climate Tracker with leading climate reporters and activists.
- Get 350 EUR equipment price.
- A 250 EUR storytelling price after the publication of their video/story on the EU GCCA+ channels.
Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- If you are between 18 and 30 years and live in a GCCA+ country.
- Each participant can send max 1 video and 1 story
- You can participate with a video or a feature story accompanied by original photos:
- An original climate change video story (with subtitles in English, French or Spanish) Length: 90” to 180”
- An original climate change written story in English, French or Spanish – 1000 to 1500 words, accompanied by 5 original photos with captions.
- It is preferably related to an EU-funded project in your country.
- There will be 1 winner for each for each the following regions that reflect EU GCCA+ main areas of intervention:
- Asia / Pacific.
- East / Central Africa.
- West Africa.
- Southern Africa/Indian Ocean.
- Latin America / Caribbean.
Please note: Winners will be announced before COP26.

- The best script.
- The most touching story.
- The most original story.
- The most inspiring story.
- The most liked story.
Timeline:
- 22 September: Submission deadline.
- 22 October: Official Announcement of the Winners (@Climate Action Day 24 October).
- 22 October-22 December: Masterclass and submission of video/story/photos for publication.

The Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) is a European Union flagship initiative that is helping the world's most vulnerable countries to address climate change. Having started with just four pilot projects in 2008, it has become a major climate initiative that has funded over 80 projects of national, regional, and worldwide scope in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
