Tiny House Architecture Competition with Prize Pool of $4500 by Volume Zero

Volume Zero is inviting designers to participate in Tiny House 2022 Architecture Competition.

As needs evolve, house designs are evolving globally. Designing outside of the box has become increasingly important as land availability and economic feasibility decrease. It is imperative to utilize space efficiently and effectively.

Now with the effects of the pandemic and other factors in the recent years the home environment is more critical than ever. In addition to shelter, a home must serve as an office, a full-time kitchen, an entertainment area, and place for peace. Having one home act in all these roles is a challenge that designers have to cater to for a variety of spatial experiences. The Tiny House Movement, once again, celebrates the concept of simple, yet resourceful living. The homes can be designed to re-imagine sustainability through the innovation of maximum usable

space in a minimum footprint.

Participants are to design a Tiny House for 2 people that would provide a comfortable living accommodation. The design and concept of the house should be innovative, creative and sustainable. The relation between the exterior surroundings and interior spaces must be taken into consideration. The proposed design should be well-conceptualized. The area of the proposed Tiny House should

not exceed 300 sq. ft. Mobility being a vital factor, the house need not be self-mobile, but should be treated as an extension that can be towed easily by a car or pickup truck. However, the participants can avoid the issue of mobility altogether by providing a strong justification for the same.

1. Total Prize - $4500:
2. 1st Prize $2000 ,2nd Prize $ 1200 and 3rd Prize $800, and Certificate and Publication
3. 10 Honorable Mentions.
4. Student award $500.

The entrants must complete the online registrations and the submission must include, (but are not limited to) the following required drawings.

1. Building / Site sections which illustrate key aspects and major spatial or programmatic elements.
2. Floor plans to show the interior spatial arrangements and program.
3. Large scale drawing that illustrates innovative details or integrated aspects of design.
4. Three dimensional representations explaining the design, perspectives and montages which display the character of the project.
5. Elevations demonstrating quality such as material, texture, and colour.
6. All drawings should be presented at a scale appropriate for the design solution and include a graphic scale for reference.

Format:

• A single A1 sheet must be submitted in JPEG format (150 DP Resolution), file size not exceeding 5 MB.
• The file must be marked with your unique identification number, presented clearly in the top right corner on the A1 sheet.
• All text must be in English, with a MAXIMUM of 200 WORDS for project explaination with a readable font size (to be provided on the A1 sheet).
• The sheet must not include ANY INFORMATION (Name, Organisation, School, etc.) that may give away your identity.
• All dimension should be in imperial or metric unit.
• Any other submission other than the above-mentioned format would not be accepted.
