Opportunity description

The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) offers a partial scholarship program for international students who are required to pay tuition fees for English-taught bachelor’s and master’s programs. The university does not provide a scholarship for the first academic year. However, newly admitted students may receive an Early Bird discount, while continuing students who demonstrate strong academic progress after their first year may qualify for a scholarship.

The value of the scholarship varies according to the tuition fee of the selected program and covers part of the tuition fees beginning from the second academic year. Admitted students may also receive a €1,500 discount on first-year tuition fees if they accept their study place within 14 days of receiving the admission letter.

This opportunity is suitable for students seeking partially funded bachelor’s or master’s scholarships in Finland, but it is not classified as a fully funded scholarship.

Benefits

The scholarship offers the following benefits:

  • An Early Bird discount of €1,500 on first-year tuition fees.
  • A JYU scholarship for continuing students after completing their first academic year.
  • Partial tuition fee coverage of up to €6,000 per year, depending on the program.
  • Financial support for all students who meet the scholarship requirements, rather than only a limited number of recipients.
  • The possibility of receiving the scholarship during:
    • The second and third years for bachelor’s students.
    • The second year for master’s students.
  • The opportunity to study at one of Finland’s leading research universities.
  • Access to an international learning environment and modern university facilities.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Apply to one of the University of Jyväskylä’s international bachelor’s or master’s programs.
  • Be from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland and belong to a category required to pay tuition fees.
  • Meet the academic admission and language requirements of the selected program.
  • Pay the tuition fees for the first academic year.
  • Achieve the required academic progress to qualify for the JYU Scholarship after the first year.
