Volunteer in Sudan with UN Volunteers: Communication Officer

United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Sudan as a Communication Officer.

Duration:

5 months (with possibility of extension)

• Co-plan and co-design internal and external communications strategies and outreach activities, in cooperation with concerned stakeholders.
• Design and perform assessments for Country Office projects and programs, develop promotional activities based on evaluation of information.
• Organize and implement information campaigns, press conferences, interviews pertaining to WHO activities in association with other staff from the technical team.
• Draft regular newsletter/ situation reports and updates where appropriate to support the organization’s developmental and crisis response projects.
• Maintain and update information database and photo library.
• Coordinate and manage production and proper dissemination of WCO publication material, including content management.
• Prepare the content for the WCO web site and maintain the intranet page in cooperation with the ICT staff, verify and ensure the consistency of the material.
• Manage the translations of documents and communication material as and when required.
• Train WHO staff on communications issues
• Provide innovative solutions to public communications issues.

• Age: 27 - 80
• Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
• Required experience: 3 years of experience and a university degree in journalism, communications, arts, international relations, or social sciences. 
• Languages:

1. English, Level: Fluent, Required
2. Arabic, Level: Fluent, Required

• Required education level: Bachelor degree or equivalent in Communication
• Skills:

1. Demonstrated understanding of operations relevant to the World Health Organization.
2. Diplomacy and tact to deal with clients
3. High degree of autonomy, personal initiative
4. Willingness to accept wide responsibilities and ability to work independently
5. Teamwork and respect for diversity
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and harmonious working relations in a multi-cultural
7. Ability to achieve common goals and provide guidance or training to colleagues.
8. Good spoken and written communication skills
9. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
10. Ability to conduct presentations
11. Adaptability and ability to live and work in potentially hazardous and remote conditions
12. Willingness to travel within the area of operations and to transfer to other duty stations as necessary
13. Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, and self-reliance
14. Commitment towards WHO mission and vision, as well as to the UN Core Values.
