Opportunity description
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Türkiye is offering a United Nations Volunteer opportunity for the position of Interpreter (Arabic-Turkish) to support protection, migration, and social integration programs in Türkiye.
The volunteer will work within a program that helps Syrians under temporary protection and individuals under international protection in Türkiye access employment opportunities and strengthen their social and economic integration. The main responsibilities include providing accurate interpretation between Arabic and Turkish during interviews, phone calls, and meetings, while maintaining confidentiality, neutrality, and accuracy when conveying information.
There are 4 vacancies available, with 2 positions in Gaziantep and 2 positions in Kahramanmaraş. The assignment lasts 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

Duties & responsibilities
Provide accurate interpretation during interviews, meetings, phone calls, and video calls.
Convey beneficiaries’ statements directly without omitting, adding, or rephrasing the content.
Maintain strict confidentiality during interpretation sessions.
Remain neutral, objective, and impartial while interpreting.
Be sensitive to cultural and linguistic differences between all parties.
Use appropriate terminology and respect beneficiaries’ communication preferences.
Participate in training related to interpretation in international organizations and beneficiary protection.
Contribute to preparing and updating terminology glossaries used within the program.
Undergo interpretation quality assessments when required.
Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years old.
Fluency in Arabic is required.
Fluency in Turkish is required.
Working knowledge of English is considered an advantage.
The minimum formal educational qualification is secondary education.
Previous experience in translation or interpretation with humanitarian, governmental, or non-governmental organizations is preferred.
Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of human trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is considered an advantage.
Ability to prepare and edit written translations.
Strong communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
