The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) has announced the opening of entries for the Weather Photographer of the Year 2026 competition, inviting photographers from around the world to submit images that document the beauty, power, and impact of weather on human life and the environment.

The competition accepts photographs of different weather phenomena, such as storms, lightning, clouds, rain, snow, fog, heatwaves, and more. It also welcomes images that highlight climate change and its environmental and human impacts.

Participation is free and open to photographers of all levels, whether professionals or amateurs. Photos may be taken using professional cameras, smartphones, or tablets, depending on the selected category.

  • Photographs must have been taken within the five years prior to the competition closing date.
  • A maximum of five photographs may be submitted in each category.
  • Photographs must be the original work of the participant.
  • Photos must be submitted electronically through the official application platform.
