The Wiki Loves Earth 2026 in Kuwait competition opens participation for photography enthusiasts to document Kuwait’s natural heritage, including nature reserves, protected areas, wildlife, desert landscapes, biodiversity, plants, and animals. The competition aims to encourage participants to upload high-quality images to Wikimedia Commons, contributing to the digital preservation and documentation of Kuwait’s natural and environmental beauty.
The competition includes main categories such as close-up photos of animals, plants, and fungi; photos of landscapes, nature reserves, parks, and areas of environmental value; as well as a special category on people and the environment, and a video nomination category.
Benefits
- First-place prize: USD 300.
- Second-place prize: USD 200.
- Third-place prize: USD 100.
- Prizes worth USD 50 for fourth, fifth, and sixth places.
- Digital certificates of appreciation for participants ranked from seventh to twentieth place.
- Best Video Award worth USD 50, provided that the evaluation criteria are met.
- Nomination of the top 15 local winners from Kuwait to participate in the international judging of the Wiki Loves Earth competition.
Eligibility criteria
- Photos must be the participant’s own work.
- Photos must not contain watermarks.
- Photos must be connected to a specific natural site, such as a reserve, natural area, or eligible environmental site.
- Photos must be uploaded only during the competition period.
- Photos must be licensed under one of the accepted licenses: CC-BY-SA 4.0, CC-BY 4.0, or CC0.
- Photos must be of suitable quality, with a minimum size of 4MB or 4Mpx.
