Opportunity description
The Emirates Literature Foundation has opened submissions for the Letter Writing Competition 2027, a student competition designed to encourage creative writing and personal expression through the writing of a handwritten letter on a specific theme.
The theme for the 2027 edition is “Heroes”, and participants are asked to write a letter to someone they consider a hero in their lives or an inspiring person they would like to thank, honor, or describe the impact they have had on them. This person may be real, historical, or even fictional.
The competition is open to students residing in the United Arab Emirates of all nationalities. Entries are accepted in Arabic or English across several age categories, with prizes including book vouchers, opportunities to meet authors, and attendance at events during Emirates LitFest 2027.

Winners and participants will receive a range of benefits, including:

- A commemorative trophy for winners.
- A special meeting for the first-place winner with one of the authors participating in Emirates LitFest 2027.

Eligibility criteria
Students may participate if they:
- Are enrolled full-time in a school or are being homeschooled.
- Reside in the United Arab Emirates.
- Are between 8 and 18 years old.
- Submit an original entry written by themselves.
- Follow the required letter formatting guidelines.
- Submit only one entry.
- Do not use artificial intelligence tools to write their submission.
Age Categories
The competition is divided into three age groups:
- 8–10 years old
- 11–13 years old
- 14–18 years old
Letter Requirements
The letter must:
- Be handwritten.
- Be written on one A4 sheet.
- Use only one side of the page.
- Be approximately 200 to 400 words in length.
- Be written in ink, not pencil.
- Be written in Arabic or English.
- Be clearly scanned and converted to PDF before uploading.
- Be entirely the student’s own work.
- Not be written using artificial intelligence tools.
- Be submitted only once by each student.
