Opportunity description

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is offering a job opportunity in Sfax, Tunisia, for the position of Case Worker, with the aim of providing humanitarian and social support to the most vulnerable migrants and helping them access appropriate health, psychological, social, and legal services based on their needs.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is part of the United Nations system and works to promote safe and orderly migration, protect the rights of migrants and displaced people, and provide assistance to populations affected by humanitarian crises.

The selected candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Head of the IOM Sub-Office in Sfax and the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant. The role involves receiving migrants, assessing their needs, providing individual and group guidance and support, referring cases to specialized service providers, and following up on the services provided in accordance with IOM’s established protection and confidentiality standards.

Duties & responsibilities

  1. Assess migrants’ needs: Conduct interviews with beneficiaries to identify their circumstances and humanitarian needs and assess their eligibility for assistance provided by the organization.

  2. Provide support and referrals: Guide migrants to appropriate health, psychological, social, and legal services, as well as voluntary return and reintegration programs, with particular attention to the most vulnerable cases.

  3. Follow up on cases and field activities: Coordinate with partners and service providers to monitor assistance, contribute to developing short-, medium-, and long-term solutions for beneficiaries, and carry out outreach and awareness activities for migrants in need of support.

  4. Manage data and reporting: Prepare case files and reports, update databases and statistics, and assist in preparing financial documentation related to direct assistance while maintaining confidentiality and complying with data protection standards.

Eligibility criteria

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree: In Social Work, Health Sciences, Psychology, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.

  • High school diploma: With at least 4 years of relevant professional experience.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in providing assistance to migrants or implementing humanitarian activities targeting vulnerable populations.

  • Experience working with government authorities, the United Nations, or national and international organizations.

  • Previous experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of migration- and health-related issues in Tunisia and the region is considered an important advantage.

Required Skills

  • Good report-writing and document-drafting skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

  • Ability to interact professionally, impartially, and empathetically with migrants from diverse backgrounds.

  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of personal data and protecting beneficiaries’ information.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills when working with partner organizations.
