Opportunity description

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is offering a job opportunity in Aleppo, Syria, for the position of Movement Operations Associate – Beneficiary-Facing Activities, aimed at supporting the movement of migrants and refugees and ensuring they receive the necessary humanitarian assistance and logistical services throughout different stages of travel, resettlement, voluntary return, and family reunification.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), an organization associated with the United Nations system, works to promote safe and orderly migration and provide support to people affected by displacement and humanitarian crises.

The selected candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the direct supervision of the National Protection Officer, contributing to the coordination of beneficiary movements, facilitating travel procedures, following up on sensitive humanitarian cases, and ensuring that assistance is provided in accordance with IOM’s established safety and protection standards.

Duties & responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the position include:

  1. Coordinate beneficiary movements: Support refugee resettlement, family reunification, voluntary return, humanitarian admission, and other humanitarian initiatives requiring movement by land, air, or sea.

  2. Provide field support: Coordinate with relevant authorities and service providers to ensure beneficiaries move safely through airports, transit centers, camps, and designated facilities.

  3. Arrange transportation: Coordinate the transportation of beneficiaries to and from assembly points and approved facilities, while taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable individuals.

  4. Provide basic necessities: Help ensure that food and essential supplies are provided to beneficiaries during movement operations in accordance with established quality standards.

  5. Support sensitive humanitarian cases: Assist people with special needs and unaccompanied or separated migrant children in accordance with protection policies.

  6. Facilitate travel procedures: Assist with preparing travel documents and exit permits, and coordinate with government authorities and external partners to complete the necessary procedures.

  7. Manage beneficiary data: Enter and update information in approved electronic systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality and reporting any issues.

  8. Provide interpretation and support services: Support selection missions and provide interpretation services when needed at airports, transit centers, camps, and during movement operations.

  9. Support visa applications: Assist applicants with completing forms, scheduling appointments, collecting documents, and recording biometric data when required by government authorities.

  10. Participate in field activities: Travel when required to attend meetings and training sessions and carry out program-related activities.

  11. Comply with protection standards: Follow standard operating procedures, protect personal data, maintain neutrality and professionalism, and report any violations related to protection or professional conduct.

  12. Support team members: Provide guidance and assistance to Movement Operations Assistants when needed and perform any other related duties.

Eligibility criteria

Educational Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • High school diploma: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree: In Social Sciences, International Relations, Regional Studies, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Additional experience requirements include:

  • Previous experience in movement operations, transportation, or related administrative work.

  • Experience with programs involving beneficiary movement operations, particularly resettlement programs.

  • Experience in direct communication with beneficiaries of humanitarian services.

  • Knowledge of handling and protecting sensitive information and personal data.

  • Experience supervising junior staff and leading teams.

  • Experience using movement operations management systems such as iGATOR, MiMOSA, SAR, and Amadeus is considered a strong asset.
