Opportunity description
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is accepting applications for the position of Migration Health Nurse at its office in Sfax, Tunisia, as part of its efforts to provide health services and medical support to migrants and refugees.
The position aims to support daily nursing activities and migration-related health assessments, assist in the prevention of communicable diseases and follow-up of medical cases, provide health information and medical guidance to migrants and refugees, and help ensure that they receive appropriate care.
The selected candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Head of the Sub-Office in Sfax and the direct supervision of the Migration Health Physician, in coordination with IOM’s medical and administrative teams.

Duties & responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the position include:
Conduct initial medical assessments: Assist with measuring vital signs, weight, height, and vision, and collect blood, urine, and sputum samples when required.
Support communicable disease control programs: Assist in following up on tuberculosis cases, implementing Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS), and applying infection prevention and control measures.
Provide health support to migrants and refugees: Explain health assessment procedures, including chest X-rays, vaccinations, and laboratory tests, and provide information related to treatment and medical referrals.
Follow up on medical cases: Assist in managing emergency cases and chronic illnesses, arrange specialized medical consultations, and follow up on related reports.
Document health information: Collect medical histories and personal data, verify beneficiaries’ identities, and update medical records and approved databases.
Support travel-related medical procedures: Assist with pre-departure medical assessments and provide medical escort to migrants when needed to ensure continuity of healthcare.
Coordinate with laboratories and healthcare facilities: Ensure the safe transport of medical samples and follow up on laboratory results and medical reports.
Manage medical supplies: Prepare lists of required medications and supplies and assist with inventory and receipt procedures in coordination with administrative and finance teams.
Comply with medical standards: Apply standard operating procedures and approved health and safety protocols in IOM clinics.
Support medical administrative operations: Assist with reviewing medical invoices and carry out any other duties related to the position.
Eligibility criteria
Educational Qualifications and Experience
Hold an accredited nursing degree or diploma from a recognized educational institution.
Possess a valid license to practice nursing in Tunisia.
Have relevant clinical experience based on the academic qualification:
Bachelor’s degree holders: At least 2 years of experience.
Diploma holders: At least 4 years of experience.
Previous experience or training in tuberculosis control, mass vaccination campaigns, communicable diseases, laboratory testing, or public health is considered an asset.
Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds is also considered an advantage.
Required Skills
Good knowledge of clinical nursing, preventive care principles, and disease control.
Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and to work with electronic systems.
Good organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage time and set priorities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze medical information and data accurately.
