Google announces the Student Researcher, BS/MS, Winter/Summer 2026 opportunity, a paid research opportunity for students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s programs in computer science or related technical fields. Accepted students will participate in research projects within different Google teams, such as Google Research, Google DeepMind, and Google Cloud, working on solutions to large-scale real-world problems in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, software engineering, computer vision, and others.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Participate in research projects aimed at developing solutions to real-world, large-scale problems.
  • Work within research, engineering, or scientific teams at Google, depending on the project that best matches the student’s skills.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers on innovative research challenges.
  • Support the development of new technologies in fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, software engineering, computer vision, or similar technical areas.
  • Contribute to exploratory research that supports scientific progress and the development of Google products and technologies.

Eligibility criteria

  1. The applicant must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in one of the following fields: computer science, linguistics, statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, operations research, economics, natural sciences, or a related technical field.
  2. The applicant must have experience in one of the areas of computer science, such as natural language understanding, human-computer interaction, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, algorithm optimization, data science, software engineering, or similar fields.
  3. Proficiency in English is required.
  4. The applicant must be located in the United States for the full duration of the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. The applicant should be enrolled in a full-time degree program and return to their studies after completing the internship.
  2. The applicant should currently be studying in an academic program in the United States.
  3. Previous research experience, whether through an internship, full-time work, or a research lab.
  4. Contribution to the research community, such as publishing papers in major conferences or journals.
  5. Experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C/C++.
