Banff Centre is inviting artists all over the world to participate in the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival Signature Image Competition. The annual signature image is used on Banff Centre’s marketing materials which includes posters, postcards, banners, Festival website, 30,000 Festival brochures, 32,000 Festival programs, and over 120,000 World Tour Magazines.
Benefits:-
Banff Centre offers a payment of $3000 (CAD) for the winning image.
The photographer also receives far-reaching exposure of their work, and the winning image will be featured prominently on the festival website and during an exhibition at the 2021 Festival, along with the winner's biography.
The winner also receives 10 tickets to attend events at the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival.
Images Specifications:-
Theme: The signature image reflects Banff Centre’s mountain-themed Festival. The image can be taken from anywhere in the world, as long as it's mountain-themed.
Concept: Banff Centre looks for an image that evokes passion and energy, has a dynamic and enticing landscape and/or features a mountain activity.
Orientation: The image must work well both vertically and horizontally. Most of Banff Center’s marketing materials are vertical (posters, banners, postcards, ads, etc.), but for web and video production, a horizontal orientation is preferred.
Clean: Banff Centre incorporates the placement of numerous sponsor logos, so it is looking for images where these can be easily incorporated.
Exposure: Banff Centre wants an image that hasn’t already appeared in a national ad campaign or been featured in magazines.
Free of commercial elements: Banff Centre wants an image without prominent commercial elements such as clearly visible logos.
Images Technical Requirements:-
JPG files only.
File size for initial entry: between 1 MB (minimum) – 3 MB (maximum) per image.
Final file size: If selected, you will be asked for higher resolution images in April.
The photographer of the chosen/winning image will be asked to provide a high-resolution RAW or TIFF file.
The image needs to be used in large formats sizes such as tall banners, 11 x 17 posters and larger, therefore the final image will need to be these approximate sizes:
Vertical – 300 dpi at 18 inches x 24 inches or larger.
Horizontal – 300 dpi at 24 inches x 18 inches or larger.

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity was established in 1933 . It was granted full autonomy as a non-degree granting post-secondary educational institution in 1978. It offers arts programs in the performing and fine arts, as well as leadership training. The centre programs include residencies, workshops, practicum programs, the Leighton Artists' Studios (an artist retreat), and the multidisciplinary Banff Summer Arts Festival.
