<p>The Japan Media Arts <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Events-Festivals-and-Conferences" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Festival</a> Executive Committee invites creators from all around the world to participate in the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival - Festival Platform <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Competitions-and-Awards" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Award</a>. In the 24th festival, there will be an open call for a work to be shown on the Globe-like display at Miraikan museum in Japan &ndash; The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.</p><h3>Eligibility Criteria:</h3><p><strong>To be eligible for entry, works must satisfy all of the following conditions:</strong></p><ul><li>Works completed or released between Saturday, November 30, 2019, and Tuesday, October 20, 2020, or new works created for the spherical exhibitions at Miraikan.</li><li>Works for spherical surfaces or domes.</li><li>Video works, or application programs capable of real-time video creation that can be projected onto a screen.</li></ul><h3>Spherical Exhibitions at Miraikan:</h3><p>Miraikan has two spherical video systems. The first is Geo-Cosmos, a spherical display, and the museum&rsquo;s signature exhibition. The second is Dome Theater GAIA, equipped with a full-dome 3D video system.<br>Geo-Cosmos and Dome Theater GAIA are identical in the systems that they are both designed for spherical video images. The only difference between the two is the &ldquo;viewpoint&rdquo;, that one is designed to be viewed from the outside of the sphere, and the other is designed to be viewed from the inside. The globe-like display enables viewers to change a viewpoint, which affects the way they interpret and experience the content. With Geo-Cosmos, viewers are free to choose a viewpoint and to move around as they experience looking at the outside of the sphere. On the other hand, Dome Theater GAIA has a feature that viewers sit in a fixed position to experience a sense of immersion surrounded by video and sound.<br>The festival is looking forward to seeing expressions taking advantage of those differences, the festival calls for work in the two categories, &ldquo;Geo-Cosmos Category&rdquo; and &ldquo;Dome Theater Category.&rdquo;</p><h3>Awards:</h3><ul><li><strong>Geo-Cosmos Category:</strong> Certificate, trophy, 500,000 Japanese yen.</li><li><strong>Dome Theater Category:</strong> Certificate, trophy, 500,000 Japanese yen.</li></ul><h3>Selection Criteria:</h3><ul><li><strong>Concept:</strong> Does the work capture and incorporate the video image concept?</li><li><strong>Expression:</strong> Is the video expression polished and aesthetically pleasing?</li><li><strong>Technology:</strong> Does the work account for the respective characteristics of Geo-Cosmos or the Dome Theater?</li><li><strong>Originality:</strong> Does the work incorporate the artist&rsquo;s distinct viewpoint in an appealing way?</li><li><strong>Viability:</strong> Can the work be completed in a manner suited to the designated format?</li></ul><h3>About the Japan Media Arts Festival:</h3><p>The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts that honors outstanding works from a diverse range of media - from animation and comics to media art and games. The festival gives awards in each of its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. It also provides a platform for appreciation of the award-winning and other notable works. Since its inception in 1997, the festival has recognized significant works of high artistry and creativity, and in addition to a yearly Exhibition of Award-Winning Works, has held other events, such as symposiums, screenings, and showcases. Award-Winning Works are exhibited both within Japan and abroad through various projects and events organized by The Agency of Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan which aims to develop and promote the creation of Media Arts by focusing primarily on the new generation of artists.
