Opportunity description

Arab theater institute urges young Arab theatrical researchers and academic institution to participate in the fourth edition of its annual competition on theatrical research. The theme of this year is: "Stylistics, stereotypes and theater liberation". The competition aims at giving young researchers room for their ideas and discovering new insights on theater research. In order to take Arab theater research field into new levels, and to enrich its content especially on the Internet.

The Applied Research:

  1. Should be 5000-10000 words.
  2. Fussily-followed Arabic writing and punctuation rules.
  3. A good layout that appeals to the Arab reader.
  4. Unpublished research, not a part of the masters or Ph.D. thesis, and not submitted for any type of academic promotion. This applies before and during the competition, but afterwards, the researcher has the latitude to use his research in any of the previous purposes.
  5. Novelty and usefulness of the theme.
  6. An unorthodox way of putting the research ideas forward.
  7. Undisputed understanding of the research problem, through covering all previous related researches. Academic integrity is the rule when quoting previous researches. 
  8. A clear vision of a suitable methodology to address the problem.
  9. A list of research resources to be bilingually-compiled, in the language of the original resource and in Arabic.
  10. A referential framework for concepts and terminology used is a must.
  11. The researcher is required to come up with new tools that are applicable to Arab theater issues.

Eligibility Criteria:

Young researchers up to 40 years old are allowed to apply in two ways, either by researcher self-nomination, or to be nominated by an academic institute.

Prizes:

  • The first place to receive $5000.
  • The second place to receive $4000.
  • Third place to receive $3000.

All of the winners will be awarded Arab theater institute silver icon, and their researches will be published among ATI publications.

Competition dates:

  • The Competition will be announced in early March 2020
  • Submission of entries in the competition starts from the beginning of May 2020.
  • The application deadline expires at the end of August 2020.
  • The results of the winners will be announced in mid-November 2020.
