<p>The United Nations (UN) is offering an exceptional <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Volunteer-Work" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>volunteering&nbsp;</strong></a>opportunity for a qualified translator from English to French to join the online team within the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for 2020. Four volunteers are needed to work 6-10 hours per week for a duration of 12 weeks. UNDP Global Environmental Finance (GEF) Unit manages the partnerships with the environmental vertical funds such as Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Green Climate Fund (GCF) while supporting countries on programming and implementation across interrelated technical areas:</p><ol><li>Sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems.</li><li>Sustainable, affordable and accessible energy services.</li><li>Scaling up climate change adaptation and mitigation</li><li>Sustainable management of chemicals and waste.</li><li>Improved water and ocean governance.</li></ol><h3>Responsibilities:</h3><ol><li>The Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Team is seeking UN Volunteer support to translate web stories, press releases, and publications.</li><li>Within the CCA unit, the work focuses on resilient livelihoods, food and agricultural systems, water management, climate information, resilient ecosystems, and ecosystem-based adaptation, making the use and supply of energy more environmentally sustainable, affordable and accessible, to promote low emission and climate-resilient urban and transport infrastructure, and to improve water and ocean governance and management and to sustain livelihoods at the local, national, regional and global scales.</li><li>Occasional translation to English from these languages may also be required.&nbsp;</li><li>The translators will work in collective groups to both translate and edit translations to ensure high-quality final products.</li><li>&nbsp;The translators will report to UNDP&rsquo;s Communications Lead for Climate Change Adaptation.</li><li>&nbsp;Both small and larger projects will be assigned. When available, translators will be given credit within the translated section. In all, the UNDP CCA Team seeks 4 French to join the communications unit and provide ongoing support.&nbsp;</li><li>Breakdown of translation deliverables are as follows: - Translate 10 press releases - Translate 5 web stories - Translate 2 publications - Edit translations from other UNVs to ensure high-quality products (17) - Translate video scripts (4) - Translate social media assets (20).</li></ol><h3>Requirements:</h3><p>Qualified translators for French. Good language skills. Understanding of climate change adaptation, UNDP, the Paris Agreement and SDGs highly desired. Familiarity with technical language around international development.
