<p dir="ltr">The SPIE International Day of Light Photo <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Competitions-and-Awards">Contest</a> is now available for Amateur and professional photographers who want to participate. This competition is held annually to raise awareness about IDL and to demonstrate the impact light has on cultural, economic, and political aspects of our global society.&nbsp;</p><h3 dir="ltr">Competition Theme:-</h3><ul><li dir="ltr">The theme of the photo contest is A World of Light: The Vital Role That Light and Light-Based Technologies Play in Daily Life. Examples of content include, but are not exclusive to, artistic images that depict:<ul><li dir="ltr">Various properties of light and how it interacts with the atmosphere, nature, and materials.</li><li dir="ltr">Light technology such as lasers, LEDs, etc.</li><li dir="ltr">Images created with light technology such as telescopes and microscopes.</li><li dir="ltr">People interacting with light and/or light technology.</li><li dir="ltr">The betterment of the human condition with light.</li></ul></li><li dir="ltr">SPIE has created a Youth Category for young photographers aged 13-17 years old.</li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">Eligibility and Conditions:-</h3><ul><li dir="ltr">The photo contest is open to people from age 13 and up, both amateur and professional photographers, except employees of SPIE and optics.org, their immediate families, the contest judges, and consultants/contractors of SPIE. Immediate family is defined as all grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, children, grandchildren, in-laws, or anyone living in the SPIE or optics.org employee&rsquo;s household.</li><li dir="ltr">Entrants are subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.&nbsp;</li><li dir="ltr">Contest is void where prohibited by law.</li><li dir="ltr">For children ages 13 to 17, a parent or guardian must submit a permission letter, and choose how the child&rsquo;s name should be used (whole name, first name only, or a pseudonym).</li><li dir="ltr">Each person may submit a maximum of two (2) entries. The contest is limited to the first 1,500 entries. Contestants should enter one photo per entry form.</li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">Prizes:-</h3><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">General Category:</p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">1st Place: US $2,500</p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">2nd Place: US $1,000</p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">3rd Place: US $500</p></li></ul></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Technology and Science category, US $750</p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Youth category (ages 13 &ndash; 17):</p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">1st , 2nd, 3rd Places: Surprise gift box of SPIE merchandise suitable for youth</p></li></ul></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Winning photographs will also be published in various SPIE and Lightsource.org publications, online, other printed materials, and displayed at SPIE conferences and exhibitions.&nbsp;</p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Photos may also be used by organizations cooperating with SPIE in various IDL promotions. Credit will be given to the photographer.</p></li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">Judging Criteria:-</h3><p dir="ltr">Each photograph will be judged on the following criteria:</p><ul><li dir="ltr"><strong>Content:</strong> Appropriateness and coverage of content in relation to the theme.</li><li dir="ltr"><strong>Scientific interest:</strong> Overall effectiveness in engaging and communicating the contest theme to viewers.</li><li dir="ltr"><strong>Creativity/artistry:</strong> Innovation and creativity in the concept.</li><li dir="ltr"><strong>Execution:</strong> Execution of photography techniques used to enhance the quality and content of entries.</li><li dir="ltr">Overall appeal for the International Day of Light.</li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">About SPIE:-</h3><p dir="ltr">SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, was founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. The not-for-profit society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth.
