The Anima Animation Film Festival invites filmmakers from all over the world to participate in the 41st edition that will take place in Brussels from February 25 to March 6, 2022. Anima seeks to promote animated films from all over the world and encourage dialogue between professionals, filmmakers, and the public.
Benefits
Films in competition are submitted to juries that award the Anima official prizes (list available on the www.animal festival.be website from 01/02/2022) and/or are also submitted to a public vote.
In addition, Festival partners may also offer prizes to films of their choice, in all categories.
In the case of a cash prize, a bank transfer will be made to the account indicated by the winner within 8 months of the end of the festival.
Eligibility criteria
- The Anima Festival is open to all animated films completed 18 months before the beginning of the festival, regardless of format, origin, or technique.
- There is no registration fee to enter films for the festival.
- All films belonging to the following categories as eligible for competition:
- International Professional Short Films.
- International Student Films.
- International Short Films for a Young Audience.
- Feature Films.
- Feature Films for a Young Audience.
- National Short Films.
- "Animated Night” Short Films.
- Virtual Reality Short Films.
- No film included in the festival program can be shown at more than three public screenings for feature films and no more than four public screenings for short films. Folioscope undertakes to request written authorization from the producer/director for any additional screenings, either within the festival venue, or outside of it.
- Unless participants advise otherwise before October 15, 2021, films in the official selection may also be shown on a secure online viewing platform which will be available throughout the festival.
- The festival prefers to receive films in their original versions, except for films intended for a young audience, in which case French and/or Dutch versions are preferred.

Anima is one of the most important festivals in Europe and is qualified to nominate its candidates for the Oscar® for the best animated short film. The ASBL Folioscope organizes Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival every year. The festival presents animated films exclusively, namely films created frame by frame (traditional animated cartoons or using puppets, plasticine, etc., or digital films), and not shot in live-action.
