Bird Photographer of the Year (BPOTY) has opened entries for its international competition dedicated to bird photography, bringing together professional and amateur photographers from around the world to celebrate the beauty, diversity, behavior, and environmental relationships of birds.
The competition covers a wide range of bird photography styles, including portraits, birds in their natural environment, behavior, flight, black and white photography, creative photography, urban birds, and conservation-related photography.
Participants may submit a single image or multiple images. There are also special awards for the best portfolio and for projects documenting bird and nature conservation issues. A separate free competition is also available for young photographers.

Benefits
- The overall Bird Photographer of the Year winner receives £3,000 in cash.
- The first-place winner in each of the eight main categories receives £500.
- The second-place winner in each main category receives £250.
- The third-place winner in each main category receives a £100 photography equipment voucher.
- The winner of the Portfolio Award receives £500.
- The winner of the Conservation Award receives £500.
- Winners in the youth categories receive photography equipment vouchers, while the overall Young Bird Photographer of the Year winner receives an additional prize.
Eligibility criteria
- The competition is open to participants from all countries worldwide.
- The adult competition is open to applicants who are 18 years old or older on the specified eligibility date.
- The youth competition is open to participants aged 17 or under.
- Professional, amateur, and beginner photographers may participate.
- Images must reflect natural reality and must not mislead viewers or distort the scene.
- AI-generated images are not accepted.
- The use of AI tools for image editing is prohibited, except for permitted noise-reduction and sharpening tools in accordance with the competition rules.
- Certain techniques, including HDR, Focus Stacking, stitched panoramas, and in-camera multiple exposures, are permitted subject to the competition rules.
