Opportunity description

Doha Film Institute announces the opening of applications for the Doha Film Festival 2026, which will take place in Qatar from November 19 to 27, 2026. The festival aims to support cinema as a space for dialogue and cultural exchange, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and industry experts to celebrate cinematic works from Qatar, the region, and around the world.

  • The Best International Short Film Award is up to USD 20,000.
  • The Best Director Award in the Short Film Competition is up to USD 12,000.
  • The Best Film Award in the Made in Qatar section is up to USD 15,000.
  • Opportunity to reach a film audience, filmmakers, and industry experts from the region and around the world.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applications are currently open for short films only.
  • The short film must not exceed 20 minutes in duration, although exceptions may be made at the discretion of the programming committee.
  • The film must not have been publicly screened or released in Qatar before the 2026 edition of the festival.
  • The film must not be publicly broadcast before the end of the festival, whether on television, online, streaming platforms, or any other platform.
  • Non-English-language works must include English subtitles.
  • The Made in Qatar section is open to short fiction and documentary films. The film must be connected to Qatar through the filmmaker, filming location, or story subject.
