The W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) offers an annual fellowship program that brings together researchers and graduate students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities to conduct specialized research in the humanities and social sciences, archaeology, cultural heritage, museum studies, and the cultural development of the southern Levant, from prehistoric periods through the beginning of the modern era.
Depending on the fellowship, the research residency lasts between one and four months. Fellows are required to reside at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem and actively participate in the institute’s academic life, including lectures, field trips, and scholarly events.
Fellowships Open to All Nationalities
Lydie T. Shufro Summer Research Fellowship: Provides USD 3,000 for one month and is open to PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scholars of all nationalities.
Marcia & Oded Borowski/Barton Research Fellowship: Provides USD 12,000 for four months and is open to PhD students and applicants who received their PhD within the past five years, regardless of nationality.
Seymour Gitin Junior Fellowship: Provides USD 12,000 for four months and is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates of all nationalities.
Ernest S. Frerichs Annual Professorship: Provides USD 13,500 for four months and is open to postdoctoral researchers of any nationality.
Seymour Gitin Distinguished Professorship: Provides USD 20,000 for four months and is intended for internationally recognized senior scholars of all nationalities.
