The University of Cambridge is accepting applications for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027–2028, one of the most prestigious fully funded international scholarships for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom.
Each year, the scholarship offers around 75 fully funded awards to outstanding students from countries outside the United Kingdom to pursue eligible postgraduate programs at the University of Cambridge. Approximately 55 awards are allocated to the international competition, while around 20 are reserved for U.S. citizens residing in the United States. About two-thirds of the scholarships are typically awarded to PhD students.
Gates Cambridge aims to build a global network of scholars and leaders who can make a positive impact and improve the lives of others. Selection is therefore based not only on academic excellence, but also on leadership potential, commitment to improving the lives of others, and the applicant’s reasons for choosing their proposed course of study.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants may apply if they:
- Are citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
- Are applying as new students to an eligible postgraduate program at the University of Cambridge.
- Are applying to an eligible Master’s or PhD program covered by the scholarship.
- Meet the academic admission requirements of their chosen program.
- Have an outstanding academic record.
- Can clearly explain strong reasons for choosing their proposed course of study.
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving the lives of others.
- Show clear leadership potential.
