The University of Bournemouth in the UK is offering a Ph.D. Scholarship entitled "Telling Different Stories: innovative approaches to the publication, interpretation & archiving of linear infrastructural projects". This studentship is a collaboration between Bournemouth University (BU) and the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA). Its focus is on the relationship between commercial archaeological practice and the range of theoretical developments that fall under the broad banner of New Materialism. The project seeks to draw upon recent developments in archaeological theory and the digital humanities in order to engage in a more creative, ambitious fashion with the vast quantities of archaeological data that are generated by the most ambitious of current commercial endeavors; large-scale linear infrastructure projects.
Benefits
The scholarship includes a stipend of £15,609 per year to support living costs. Funding lasts for 45 months full-time or the equivalent period part-time.
Eligibility criteria
- The scholarship is open to UK students and international students.
- The candidate must be academically distinguished and motivated to complete a Ph.D. in four years.
- Outstanding academic potential as measured normally by either a 1st class honors degree (or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or a Master’s degree with distinction or equivalent
- An IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 minimum (with a minimum 6.0 in each component, or equivalent) for candidates for whom English is not their first language and this must be evidenced at the point of application.
- BU will look closely at the qualities, skills, and background of each candidate and what they can bring to their chosen research project in order to ensure successful completion.
- current BU Doctoral students are not eligible to apply for a Studentship.
- current MRes/MPhil students can apply, subject to the satisfactory completion of their Research Degree prior to being able to take up the award.
- The applicant should have experience in machine learning system development and be familiar with the state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing models.
