The World Conference of Science Journalists – WCSJ2027 has opened applications for the WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowships, one of the notable funded international fellowship opportunities for journalists, media students, and those interested in science journalism. Selected participants will have the opportunity to attend the World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 in London, with coverage of a number of essential costs related to participation.

The conference will take place in London, United Kingdom, from September 6 to 9, 2027, bringing together journalists, editors, writers, researchers, and science communication professionals from around the world to discuss the future of science journalism, health, climate, technology, engineering, and public engagement with science.

Benefits

Selected applicants will receive support that includes:

  • Travel costs to and from London by air, train, or bus, according to the approved arrangements.
  • Coverage of the UK visa application fee.
  • Limited coverage for local transportation, such as transfers between the airport, train or bus station, and the accommodation.

Eligibility criteria

Applications are open to:

  • Freelance journalists.
  • Professionals working in print, digital, television, radio, podcasting, or multimedia journalism.

    • Related academic fields.
  • Researchers and educators in journalism, media studies, or science communication, provided they have a demonstrated record of media work as a writer or producer.

Applicants must:

  • Be able to attend the full duration of the conference.
  • Be eligible to obtain a visa to enter the United Kingdom.
  • If applying as a student, have reached the legal age in their country and be able to travel independently.
  • Have a suitable level of English proficiency to benefit from the conference, as English is the official conference language.
  • Be committed to the principles of accurate, fair, and transparent journalism and science communication.
