The University of Guelph in Canada offers a PhD in Management through the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. The program is research-based and thesis-focused, and is designed to prepare researchers for careers in academic teaching, research, and management- and business-related fields.
The program allows students to conduct advanced research on contemporary management issues, participate in academic conferences, prepare research for publication in scholarly journals, and collaborate with faculty members and researchers from other universities.
Students may pursue the general Management stream or focus on one of the following main areas:
- Marketing and Consumer Behaviour.
- Services Management.
- Organizational Leadership.

- Students may also receive Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA).

- Additional competitive funding opportunities may be available beyond the base funding package.
- The university may also offer additional teaching or research employment opportunities, subject to availability and program requirements.
- There are 5 Lang Doctoral Entrance Scholarships, each valued at CAD 20,000, for outstanding students admitted to doctoral programs at the Lang School. The application deadline is February 1.
Eligibility criteria
To be considered for admission, applicants must:
- Hold a Master’s degree from a recognized educational institution.
- Have a Master’s degree with an appropriate focus or background in Management.
- Have achieved at least an A- average, approximately 80%–84%, or its equivalent.
- Provide two references, with the option to include a third reference.
- Academic references are preferred, although suitable professional references may be accepted in some cases.
- Submit a GMAT, GMAT Focus, or GRE score.
- Meet the English language proficiency requirements if English is not the applicant’s first language.
