Postdoctoral Fellowship

• The fellowship generally lasts 3 to 12 months, while some applicants in scientific fields may request a duration of up to 24 months.

Senior Fellowship

• Stipend: USD 60,000 per year.

Eligibility Categories

1. Graduate Student Fellowship

Applicants must:

• Be officially enrolled in a graduate degree programme at a degree-granting institution.
• Remain enrolled at the time the fellowship begins.
• Have completed at least one full academic semester before the fellowship starts.

This category may include Master’s students and some PhD students who have not yet formally advanced to doctoral candidacy.

2. Predoctoral Fellowship

Applicants must:

• Be enrolled as a candidate for a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree.
• Have approval from their university to conduct dissertation research at the Smithsonian.
• Have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation before the fellowship begins.

3. Postdoctoral Fellowship

Applicants must have completed their PhD before the fellowship begins.

4. Senior Fellowship

Applicants must have held a PhD or equivalent degree for at least 5 years.
