Save Our Seas Foundation is calling applicants from all over the world for a grant opportunity for small projects up to $10,000 (with grants averaging $5,000) for the period of March 2022 to February 2023. This grant is designed for short (12- to 18-month) and small projects dedicated to early-career scientists (within five years of a degree is awarded). Aimed at original and innovative start-up projects, the grant presents early-career scientists, conservationists, or educators with an opportunity to prove themselves.

- up to $10,000 (with grants averaging $5,000) to start up your project, in the period of March 2022 to February 2023.
Eligibility criteria
You should follow these terms:
- Only one application will be accepted for every applicant.
- If your application has more than one leader, please name the individual who will execute the project.
- Funding is awarded for only one financial year.
- Only projects concerned with marine chondrichthyan species (sharks, rays, skates, sawfishes, and chimeras) will be considered.
- Successful applicants for small project grants are not eligible to submit a Small Grant application the following year but are not excluded from submitting a new Keystone Grant application.
- The SOSF will consider small grant applications that, inter alia, aim to undertake the preliminary investigations necessary before a larger, longer-term project can be developed.
Please note:
- Costs for salaries, conference attendance, and publications are not accepted.
Project details & Overview:
You must follow these criteria:
- This project is unique because... (maximum 150 words).
- Background (maximum 300 words, including citations).
- Aim and objectives (maximum 50 words per objective). List the more specific objectives (at least one, no more than five).
- How will these objectives be achieved? (maximum 50 words per method).
- Indicators? (maximum 150 words) Explain how you plan to measure the results and impact of your project.
- How will you communicate your results? (maximum 200 words)
- Problems and contingency planning (maximum 100 words) List the main foreseeable administrative, logistical or technical problems that might arise during this project.
Deadline:
Grant applications must be submitted through the SOSF website no later than:
- Stage I: open from now until 30th June 2021.
- Stage II: upon invitation, September 2021.
