The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) is offering an international photography competition titled Water: Our Shared Story 2026, in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and within the context of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.
The competition invites photographers from around the world to submit a photo story consisting of 5 to 10 images exploring the relationship between people, communities, the planet, and water. Entries should highlight how water affects our lives, economies, and environments, as well as the challenges faced by communities around the world.
Submissions may focus on one of the following themes:
Water & People
Water & Communities
Water & Planet
Water & Innovation
Water & Challenges
Benefits
The total prize pool is USD 23,000, distributed as follows:
First Place: USD 10,000
Second Place: USD 8,000
Third Place: USD 5,000
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
Apply as individuals.
Be 18 years old or above at the time of submission.
Photographers from around the world are eligible to participate.
Submit a photo story consisting of 5 to 10 images.
Ensure that all submitted images are original and taken by the participant.
Photos taken using mobile phones and drones are permitted.
Comply with the technical requirements, originality rules, and intellectual property conditions.
