Admission Requirements for Research-Based Master’s Programmes

1. The applicant must hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from a recognized university.
2. The bachelor’s specialization must be relevant to the intended programme, or the applicant must have a suitable academic background.
3. A minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00, or equivalent, is required for scholarship applicants.
4. A minimum GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00, or equivalent, is required for applicants without a scholarship.
5. Proof of English language proficiency is required through one of the following tests:
   1. TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 70.
   2. IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0.
   3. Duolingo with a minimum score of 105.
6. Two recommendation letters must be submitted from professors who have previously taught the applicant.
7. The applicant must meet any additional requirements set by the department or the university.

Admission Requirements for PhD Programmes

1. The applicant must hold a master’s degree in engineering or science after completing a 4-year bachelor’s degree.
2. The master’s specialization must be relevant to the required programme, or the applicant must have a suitable background.
3. A minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00, or equivalent, is required in both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
4. Proof of English language proficiency is required through:
   1. TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 80.
   2. IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5.
   3. Duolingo with a minimum score of 120.
5. Two recommendation letters must be submitted, preferably from faculty members who taught the applicant during graduate studies.
6. The applicant must meet any additional department and university requirements, if applicable.

Admission Requirements for Direct PhD After Bachelor’s Degree

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals encourages applicants who hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree to apply directly to the Direct PhD programme. This option is available to both Saudi and international applicants.
