National Press Club Journalism Institute is pleased to offer a partially funded Lewis scholarship to honor promising future journalists serving their communities. It is valued at $10,000 and will be awarded to support one undergraduate student journalist of color each fall, spring, and summer semester who plan to intern at news media outlets in Washington, D.C., beginning in 2023.
Benefits
If you get this opportunity, you will have:
- A Scholarship valued at $10,000.
- A monthly stipend of $1,000 per month.
- Free housing in Washington Intern Student Housing for the duration of the student’s internship, usually four months.

Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- Be a college junior or senior, and be at least 18 years old.
- Graduating seniors may apply for this scholarship if their internship takes place in the semester immediately following graduation.
- Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade-point average.
- Enroll in online classes during your time in Washington, D.C. (Online enrollment is required during spring and fall internships. It is NOT required during summer internships).
- You are preferred to submit your materials for the Lewis Scholarship at the same time you are applying for internships.
