Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Japan has opened applications for the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship 2027, a fully funded Japanese Government scholarship for international students wishing to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree at APU beginning in September 2027.
The scholarship is provided by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and APU selects the strongest eligible applicants to officially nominate them to the ministry for funding.
The scholarship includes full exemption from admission and tuition fees, a monthly living allowance of JPY 144,000, and round-trip airfare between the student’s home country and Japan.

Eligibility criteria
To apply for the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be an international student who intends to move to Japan from abroad for study.
- Hold citizenship of a country designated as eligible by MEXT.
- Have been born on or after April 2, 1992.
- Have an academic GPA of at least 2.30 out of 3.00 at the most recent university attended.
- Meet the admission requirements for the selected graduate programme at APU.
- Hold the appropriate academic qualification for the degree being pursued.
- Obtain Student residence status while studying in Japan.
- Not be on active military duty or employed as a civilian by a military institution at the time of application.
- Not receive another scholarship that cannot be combined with the MEXT Scholarship.
