Opportunity description
The National Scholarship Program (NSP) of the Slovak Republic, funded by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of Slovakia, is currently open to applicants from all countries around the world.
This program supports international academic mobility by offering students, researchers, university teachers, and artists the opportunity to conduct study or research stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia.
Eligible applicants include Master's students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. Master's students must have completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study program at the time of application.
The scholarship contributes to the living costs of international participants during their stay in Slovakia and also provides a travel allowance depending on the distance between the applicant’s home country and Slovakia. There is no application fee required to apply for the NSP scholarship.
Duration:
The National Scholarship Program is a short-term mobility program designed to support study or research stays at higher education institutions in Slovakia.
Duration of the scholarship stay:
Master's students: 3 to 10 months.
PhD students: 1 to 10 months.
University teachers, researchers, and artists: 1 to 10 months.
Application Deadline:
The National Scholarship Programme has two application rounds each year:
April 30, 2026 – for study or research stays during the next academic year.
October 31, 2026 – for study or research stays during the summer semester.
Applicants must submit their applications through the official online application system before the respective deadline.
Benefits
The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) provides financial support to help cover the living costs of international participants during their stay in Slovakia.
Monthly scholarship amounts:
Master's students: approximately 620 EUR per month
PhD students: approximately 1025.50 EUR per month
University teachers, researchers, and artists:
Without a PhD degree and less than 4 years of experience: 734 EUR per month
With a PhD degree and less than 10 years of experience: 980 EUR per month
With a PhD degree and more than 10 years of experience: 1050 EUR per month
Travel allowance:
Participants may also receive a travel grant depending on the distance between their home country and Slovakia:
Up to 200 km: 0 EUR
200 – 300 km: 50 EUR
300 – 500 km: 100 EUR
500 – 1000 km: 250 EUR
1000 – 2000 km: 350 EUR
2000 – 3000 km: 500 EUR
3000 – 5000 km: 750 EUR
5000 – 7000 km: 1100 EUR
More than 7000 km: 1500 EUR

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) of the Slovak Republic, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must be international students, researchers, university teachers, or artists from countries outside Slovakia.
Master's students must be enrolled in a university outside Slovakia and must have completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study program at the time of application.
PhD students must be enrolled in a doctoral program at a university or research institution outside Slovakia.
University teachers, researchers, and artists must be invited by a higher education institution or research organization in Slovakia.
Applicants must demonstrate strong academic or professional achievements in their field.
The scholarship supports short-term study or research stays, not full degree programs.
