Opportunity description
The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMP) in Germany is offering the Online International Summer School (ISS) for outstanding and enthusiastic undergraduate and Master's students from all over the world, and offers them the opportunity to acquire excellent training from leading scientists in molecular biology. The 3-week online program focuses on “Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and Genome Stability”.
Candidates will get training in scientific and transferable skills from leading experts, and will attend lectures by renowned scientists, and dive into group projects. This training focuses on interdisciplinary education in the following fields:
- Epigenetics
- Gene Regulation
- DNA Damage & Genome Stability
- Developmental Biology
- Systems Biology & Bioinformatics
- Translational Research
Benefits
The summer school offers students from all over the world the chance to carry out a research project and receive scientific training in an informal and international atmosphere. This includes theory modules and practical work on a cutting-edge project within the lab of one of the participating research groups. Leading scientists hold lectures on the topics of the ISS, giving students comprehensive insight into the latest research findings and identifying key open questions in the field.
You will receive daily support within your research group, and you will receive help with your research project from scientists at IMB's state-of-the-art core facilities, which cover bioinformatics, cytometry, genomics, microscopy, and proteomics.
Eligibility criteria
- To be eligible to apply for the ISS you need to have been successfully studying a life sciences-related subject at university for a minimum of three years by the time of the ISS. Students currently studying for a Master's degree can also apply. Since the program has a strong hands-on focus, you should have previous research experience.
- The ISS is an international program and applications are encouraged from students from all over the world. However, due to funding restrictions, German students or students studying in Germany at the time of the ISS are not eligible for consideration.
- The international nature of the ISS means that the entire program is held in English, so you need to be able to communicate in this language.
About IMP:
The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a newly established research center on the campus of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. It is funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation. The scientists at IMB primarily conduct basic science in developmental biology, epigenetics, and DNA repair.
