Opportunity description
The competition, titled "Then & Now Writing Competition," focuses on telling migration stories — whether personal or family-based — and how life has been built in the UK, including continuities, sacrifices, challenges, and joyful moments. Entries are welcome in different forms: short story, essay, poem, or song lyrics, with two age categories: under 18 and 18+.
There is no entry fee.
Deadline:
31st October, 2025. All details and submissions should be via their official website.
Benefits
- First Prize: £250 for each age category.
- Second Prize: A professional writing workshop for each category.
- Third Prize: A gift voucher from a local bookstore or cinema.
- Winners are invited to read their work at the 10th-anniversary celebration (31 January 2026, optional).
- Winning or shortlisted entries will be featured on the TogetherInTheUK website and may be published in an anthology.
Eligibility criteria
- First or second-generation migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, international students, or foreign workers who live or have lived in the UK.
- People who have worked with migrants, volunteered with the initiative, or previously engaged with it.
- Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not entered into other competitions.
- Word limit: 1,500 words.
- Entries may include a few words from the writer’s native language, accompanied by an English translation.
- The theme must be “Then & Now,” narrating a migration journey and its transformations.
