The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the United Arab Emirates has opened applications for the first edition of the UAE Higher Education Award 2026, an annual national initiative launched to recognize excellence and innovation in the higher education and scientific research sector and to highlight outstanding models, projects, and individuals contributing to building a more future-ready higher education system.
The award targets higher education institutions, technical and vocational education and training institutions, students, academic staff, entrepreneurs, and partners from economic and industrial sectors. It focuses on the quality of education, research and innovation, students’ readiness for the labor market, the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence, and strengthening the economic and societal impact of higher education in the UAE.
Award Pillars
The award is organized around four main pillars:
- Leadership: Recognizing outstanding universities, higher education institutions, and technical and vocational education and training institutions.
- Readiness: Recognizing transformational projects in higher education.
- Pioneers: Covering academics, students, and entrepreneurs.
- National Impact: Recognizing partnerships, institutions, and individuals that have made a significant impact on the higher education ecosystem.
Benefits
For the Student Categories:
- First Place: AED 40,000.
- Second Place: AED 30,000.
- Third Place: AED 20,000.
For the Academic Staff Categories:
- First Place: AED 50,000.
- Second Place: AED 40,000.
- Third Place: AED 30,000.
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility requirements vary depending on the selected category. In general, the award is open to:
- Licensed higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates.
- Eligible technical and vocational education and training institutions.
- Students enrolled in higher education institutions.
- Scholarship students under the designated category.
- Academic staff members.
- Students and entrepreneurs with eligible projects and innovations.
- Institutions that support entrepreneurship.
- Organizations from economic and industrial sectors that have impactful partnerships with higher education institutions.
- International universities with distinguished partnerships with universities in the UAE.
- Applicants must comply with the specific criteria and required evidence for each category, as nomination and evaluation requirements vary from one category to another.
