The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announces an internship opportunity in Madrid, Spain, within the BIOFIN team under the Planet Hub at the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS).

The internship focuses on supporting the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), a global initiative that helps countries identify biodiversity finance needs, analyze spending, and design suitable financing solutions to protect nature and ecosystems.

The intern will work with the global BIOFIN team and contribute to research, information analysis, preparation of knowledge materials, database support, monitoring news and reports, and organizing events and meetings.

This opportunity is suitable for students and graduates interested in environmental finance, biodiversity, sustainability, economics, communications, and environmental studies.

Eligibility criteria

  1. The applicant must be enrolled in a graduate program, such as a master’s degree or higher, in a relevant field.
  2. Or be in the final academic year of a first university degree, such as a bachelor’s degree.
  3. Or have recently graduated from university, provided that the internship starts within one year of graduation if selected.
  4. Or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional training program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Preference is given to applicants from one of the following fields:

  1. Finance.
  2. Economics.
  3. Communications.
  4. Social Studies.
  5. Environmental Studies.
  6. Sustainability.
  7. Biodiversity.
  8. Any field related to nature, environment, or finance.

Required Experience and Skills

  1. Previous experience with a national or international organization is an additional advantage.
  2. Experience in finance-related fields is an advantage.
  3. Experience or knowledge in biodiversity, nature conservation, ecosystems, or the environment is an advantage.
  4. Experience in communications or digital media activities is an advantage.
  5. Knowledge of social media platforms or digital channels is an advantage.
  6. Strong research, analysis, and summarizing skills are required.
  7. Ability to prepare clear knowledge materials and reports is required.
  8. Interest in sustainability and financing nature protection is required.
  9. Ability to work within an international team and meet deadlines is required.
