UNESCO has announced the opening of nominations and applications for the third edition of the UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The prize aims to support young researchers and scientists who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and who have contributed to scientific research, education, innovation, knowledge dissemination, or regional and international scientific cooperation.

The prize focuses on encouraging scientific excellence and linking research and innovation to the Sustainable Development Goals. It also encourages the nomination of young female scientists to support gender balance in STEM fields.

Eligibility criteria

  • The nominee must be a young scientist or researcher in one of the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
  • The nominee must have recognized achievements or contributions in one or more of the following areas:
  • Scientific research in STEM fields, including emerging technologies.
  • Science education and the dissemination of research findings.
  • Scientific creativity and innovation.
  • International or regional cooperation in STEM fields.
  • The nominee must be under the age of 40 at the application deadline.
  • The application must be supported by an official nomination from an eligible entity.
  • Self-nominations alone are not accepted without a nomination from an accredited entity.
  • Application and nomination documents must be submitted in English or French.
  • Nominations of young female scientists are encouraged to support gender balance in STEM fields.
