Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has opened applications for one of the United Nations volunteering opportunities in Tunisia, titled Early Childhood Development Specialist, to work on-site and full-time in Tunis for 12 months, with the possibility of extension, starting on October 1, 2026.
This opportunity allows the volunteer to gain professional experience within an international United Nations work environment while directly contributing to programmes aimed at improving the lives of children and families. The volunteer will work within the Early Childhood Development (DPE) team, which focuses on supporting children aged 0 to 6 through integrated programmes in health, nutrition, social protection, early stimulation, preschool education, and positive parenting.

- A USD 175 travel allowance at the beginning and end of the assignment for eligible cases.

Duties & responsibilities
The volunteer’s responsibilities in this opportunity include:
- Supporting the implementation of activities under the National Early Childhood Development (DPE) Strategy and programme priorities.
- Contributing to coordination among government entities, civil society organizations, United Nations agencies, and other partners.
- Supporting the integration of early childhood development principles and responsive caregiving into health and nutrition services.
- Contributing to the implementation and documentation of the Positive Parenting Programme and supporting its scale-up.
- Supporting the development and strengthening of partnerships with institutions, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society.
- Contributing to the organization of capacity-building and community engagement activities and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting efforts to improve access to integrated, high-quality services for the most vulnerable children and families.
- Preparing technical and concept notes related to ongoing activities and projects.
- Contributing to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for early childhood development programmes.
- Promoting a culture of volunteering and participating in United Nations Volunteers (UNV) activities and related community initiatives.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 60 years old.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Be a Tunisian citizen, legal resident of Tunisia, or recognized refugee in Tunisia.
- Be fluent in Arabic.
- Be fluent in French.
- Working knowledge of English is considered an advantage.
Applicants must also hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health-related field, such as:
- Pharmacy.
- Dentistry.
- Midwifery.
- Nutrition.
- Child Psychology.
