Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), has opened applications for an international volunteering opportunity titled Partnerships Specialist, to work on-site and full-time in Nouakchott, Mauritania, for 12 months, with an expected start date of October 1, 2026.
This opportunity gives the volunteer the chance to gain international experience within one of the United Nations’ largest humanitarian agencies and contribute to the development of strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, communication, and advocacy in support of programmes aimed at fighting hunger and strengthening food security in Mauritania.
The volunteer will work within the Partnerships, Reporting, and Communications Unit, in coordination with various technical teams at the World Food Programme, and will contribute to developing funding proposals, preparing reports and informational materials, analyzing partnership data, and strengthening cooperation with donors, partners, and the private sector.

Duties & responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the volunteer include:
- Supporting partnerships, resource mobilization, and advocacy activities.
- Preparing funding proposals, reports, briefs, and informational materials.
- Developing and diversifying partnerships and engaging with new partners.
- Analyzing data and preparing recommendations to strengthen partner engagement and funding opportunities.
- Gathering programmatic and operational information and preparing strategic materials for management and partners.
- Monitoring and analyzing partnership data using WFP systems.
- Participating in field visits, events, and meetings with donors and United Nations agencies.
- Supporting the implementation of the private sector engagement strategy.
- Coordinating with World Food Programme offices at country, regional, and global levels.
- Contributing to strengthening WFP’s visibility, reputation, and advocacy efforts.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 60 years old.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Be a national of a country other than the country of assignment (Mauritania), as this is an international volunteering opportunity.
- Preferably be fluent in French.
- Preferably be fluent in English.
Applicants must also hold a Master’s degree in one of the following fields or a related discipline:
- Political Science.
- International Development.
- Development Economics.
- International Relations.
- Law.
- Marketing.
- Communications.
A first-level university degree may also be accepted when combined with additional years of relevant professional experience or specialized training.
