Opportunity description

Wellcome Foundation is offering Investigator Awards in Humanities and Social Science that enable researchers with a compelling research vision to tackle the most significant questions in human health. Duration of funding usually takes from 3 to 5 years.

Eligibility criteria:

[1] Applicant must be a humanities or social science researcher with a compelling vision who wants to tackle a significant question about human health.

[2] Applicant may be a newly appointed lecturer, a mid-career researcher or a senior researcher.

[3] If the applicant is in the early stages of an independent research career, he/she should be able to show that he/she can drive advances in the field of study and that he/she has considerable promise.

[4] Applicant should have a strong track record relative to the career stage of:

Developing innovative and creative research.

Making contributions to the area of research (eg publications and impacts on policy) and/or securing grant funding.

Leading or managing a research project.

[5] He/she should have an international reputation as a research leader in his/her field.

[6] Applicant must be based at an eligible host organisation in the UK, Republic of Ireland or a low- or middle-income country.

[7] Applicant should have a permanent, open-ended or long-term rolling contract, or the guarantee of one. The salary must be paid by the host organisation.

Applicant must propose a compelling research vision that:

[1] Is both ambitious and feasible.

[2] Transforms an area of humanities and social science related to human health.

[3] Builds on the area of research.
