Opportunity description

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027 offers a funded international research internship opportunity for Jordanian students enrolled in engineering and information technology fields at Jordanian universities.

The program enables selected students to travel to Canada and participate in a 12-week research project at a Canadian university or academic institution, under the supervision of a university professor and in collaboration with graduate students and specialized researchers.

The program aims to develop students’ research and professional skills, provide them with practical experience in an international academic environment, and introduce them to Canada’s research and innovation ecosystem. The Jordan cycle is implemented in partnership between Mitacs and Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

For Jordanian students, applications are limited to specializations that fall within the following two fields:

  1. Engineering in its various specializations.
  2. Information technology and related fields.

Intern Responsibilities

Selected students are required to:

  1. Reside in Canada throughout the internship period.
  2. Complete 12 consecutive weeks of research internship.
  3. Work on the project for approximately 40 hours per week, over five days.
  4. Carry out the research tasks and deliverables agreed upon with the supervising professor.
  5. Communicate with the supervisor in case of absence due to illness or attendance at a Mitacs event.
  6. Comply with the policies of the Canadian university and the rules of research ethics.
  7. Agree to the program’s code of conduct, liability waiver, and immigration policies.
  8. Participate seriously in the project and maintain regular communication with the research team.

The Mitacs Globalink Program funding includes the following benefits:

  6. Emergency health insurance throughout the internship period.

  10. Access to professional skills development courses.
  11. Gaining 12 weeks of international research experience.
  12. Building a network with researchers, academics, and students from different countries.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. The applicant must be a Jordanian citizen.
  2. The applicant must be between 20 and 35 years old.
  3. The applicant must currently be enrolled at a Jordanian university.
  4. The applicant must be studying full-time in an undergraduate program or in a combined undergraduate/master’s program.
  5. The applicant must not be enrolled only in a standalone master’s program.
  6. The applicant’s field of study must be engineering or information technology.
  7. The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 70%.
  8. The applicant must submit an IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 5.0.
  9. The applicant must have completed at least two years of university study, or be enrolled in the second year of their program according to the program requirements.
  10. The applicant must have between one and three semesters remaining in their program by Fall 2027.
  11. The applicant must be proficient in the language of the selected research project, whether English or French.
  12. The applicant must be available for an in-person internship in Canada for 12 consecutive weeks.
  13. The applicant must not have previously received a Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.
  14. The applicant must select at least three research projects distributed across three different Canadian provinces.

Required Documents

Applicants usually need to prepare the following documents:

  1. An updated CV/resume.
  2. An official academic transcript in English or French.
  3. A certified translation of the transcript if it is issued in Arabic.
  4. At least one recommendation letter from a university professor.
  5. An IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 5.0.
  6. Passport information, if available.
  7. Information about skills, interests, and research achievements.
  8. A statement explaining why the student wishes to conduct research in Canada.
