Monash University Malaysia offers the Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES) to outstanding students who wish to pursue a full-time research master's or PhD degree in Malaysia.
The scholarship is considered one of the leading fully funded research master's and PhD scholarships in Malaysia. It provides a full tuition fee waiver along with a monthly stipend throughout the funding period. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicant's academic record, research achievements, and previous research experience.

- A monthly stipend of MYR 2,950, based on the 2026 funding rates.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be either a new student applying for a research postgraduate program at Monash University Malaysia or a currently enrolled student who is still within the first year of their candidature.
- Hold an academic qualification equivalent to First Class Honours (H1), as assessed by the university.
- Meet the academic admission requirements and English language requirements of the selected program.
- Have received admission or an offer to study in a research master’s or PhD program at the university.
- Demonstrate an excellent academic record, preferably supported by research publications or previous research experience.
- Not have previously completed another research degree at the same level, such as applying for a second PhD.
- Obtain the university’s approval when receiving another scholarship or funding from an external organization.
- Be available to pursue full-time study and research.
- Malaysian and international students are eligible to apply, including applicants from Arab countries.
2026 Application Deadlines
The university organizes four scholarship rounds each year:
- First round: February 13, 2026.
- Second round: April 30, 2026.
- Third round: July 31, 2026.
- Fourth round: October 1, 2026.
